How to connect a custom domain with Porkbun

Remove Porkbun's parking records, add the ScaleEdges DNS records, and activate HTTPS on your domain.

Use this guide when your domain is registered with Porkbun and uses the Porkbun nameservers, which end with porkbun.com. If your nameservers belong to another company, add the records there instead. See Find where your DNS is managed.

New Porkbun domains point to a parking page through default records that target pixie.porkbun.com: an ALIAS record on the root domain and a wildcard CNAME record, written *. They must be deleted before you add your store's records.

Step 1: Get your records in ScaleEdges

  1. In your ScaleEdges dashboard, open Settings and select the Storefront tab.
  2. In the Custom domain card, enter your domain in Domain you own, for example shop.yourbrand.com or yourbrand.com.
  3. Select Connect domain and wait for the DNS records to add table.
  4. Keep this tab open. You will copy the Type, Name / host and Value of each row.

ScaleEdges shows a CNAME record for a subdomain, an A record for a root domain, and sometimes a TXT verification record.

Step 2: Open the DNS records in Porkbun

  1. Sign in to Porkbun.
  2. Open Account, then Domain Management.
  3. Under your domain name, select DNS. You can also open Details and select the edit icon next to DNS Records.

The top of the page contains the form used to add a record. The existing records are listed below it.

Step 3: Delete the parking records

  1. In the list of current records, find every record whose answer is pixie.porkbun.com. This usually includes the ALIAS record on your root domain and the CNAME record with the host *.
  2. Select the trash icon of each record, then confirm with OK.
  3. Also delete any old A, AAAA or CNAME record on the host you connect, for example shop or your root domain.

If you skip this step, Porkbun displays the error "A CNAME or ALIAS record with that host already exists" when you add your store's record. Do not delete the MX and TXT records used by your email or Porkbun's email forwarding.

Step 4: Add the records

For a subdomain (CNAME)

  1. In Type, choose CNAME - Canonical name record.
  2. In Host, enter only the subdomain, for example shop. Porkbun shows your domain next to the field and adds it automatically.
  3. In Answer, paste the Value shown in ScaleEdges.
  4. Keep the default TTL and select Add.

For a root domain (A)

  1. In Type, choose A - Address record.
  2. Leave Host empty. An empty host means your root domain.
  3. In Answer, paste the IPv4 address shown in ScaleEdges.
  4. Keep the default TTL and select Add.

At the end, your root domain must have exactly one A record, with the address shown in ScaleEdges, and no ALIAS or AAAA record.

If ScaleEdges shows a TXT record

  1. In Type, choose TXT - Text record.
  2. In Host, enter the part of the name before your domain, usually _vercel.
  3. In Answer, paste the value shown in ScaleEdges. It starts with vc-domain-verify=.
  4. Select Add. Keep your other TXT records, such as SPF.

Step 5: Check the configuration

  1. Return to Settings → Storefront → Custom domain in ScaleEdges.
  2. Select Check DNS configuration.
  3. When the status changes to Configuring HTTPS, wait a few minutes, then check again.
  4. When the status shows Active, select Open domain to view your store.

Porkbun usually publishes changes within minutes, but resolvers that cached the parking records keep them until their TTL expires. In rare cases, the change can take up to 48 hours to appear everywhere. HTTPS is activated automatically by ScaleEdges; you do not need Porkbun's SSL certificate for your store.

Troubleshooting

  • The status stays on Waiting for DNS: search the list for pixie.porkbun.com and delete any remaining parking record. Also check that the Host field contains only shop, not shop.yourbrand.com.
  • The status stays on Configuring HTTPS: if your zone contains CAA records, one of them must allow letsencrypt.org.
  • Redirecting www: a store uses one custom domain. To send the other version of your domain to your store, use Porkbun's URL forwarding to https:// followed by your connected domain, then test it with http:// and https://.
