Abandoned cart recovery in ScaleEdges automatically emails buyers who started a purchase but did not complete it, with a link that restores their cart. You manage it in Communication → Automations, where the Abandoned cart automation is ready to edit. It keeps your existing carts, settings, coupons and reminder history, and older settings links redirect there. A new store starts with a draft.
Why should you recover abandoned carts?
Many buyers leave checkout before paying: a distraction, a question, or simply a lack of time. A well-timed reminder brings back a share of these buyers, who had already chosen your product.
Abandoned cart emails help you:
- recover sales you would otherwise lose, without new advertising;
- answer hesitations with a helpful message or a limited coupon;
- run automatically, as soon as a cart is abandoned.
How do you write and publish your reminder emails?
The timeline contains the trigger and up to thirty emails. Select a step to edit its subject, preheader, rich content and delay.
- The first delay starts from the last activity on the cart; the following delays start from the previous email.
- Any new change to the cart postpones the reminder.
The content uses the same rich editor as the rest of your store. Variables are inserted at the cursor, and a preview is available for desktop and mobile. The title, note, button and coupon are set in the cart email settings.
The required product block is always present. You can change its title, layout, images, prices, number of items and position. A product removed from sale disappears from the message; if every product has disappeared, the email is cancelled. Checkout recalculates prices when the buyer returns.
To go live:
- Save your draft.
- Select Publish.
A published change creates a new version for future entrants; people already in the sequence keep their version. Pause suspends sending without losing progress, and Resume picks it up again.
How does consent work, and who receives the reminders?
At checkout, buyers see a reminder consent box that is unchecked by default. Its date and source are recorded. Agreeing to cart reminders does not, on its own, allow general campaigns: a separate box lets buyers receive your store's news and offers. A known email address or a past purchase never creates this consent automatically.
You can target specific products and variations, set a minimum or maximum cart value, require that checkout was started, and choose quiet hours in your store's time zone. The sending window and the delay between two sequences are kept from your previous settings.
Every email contains an unsubscribe link that works without signing in. It permanently blocks your store's future marketing emails to that person. A complaint or a hard bounce has the same effect. For the rules on consent to commercial emails in France, see the guidance of the French data protection authority, the CNIL (in French).
How many reminders can you send?
Cart reminders share the monthly quota of campaigns and automations:
| Plan | Marketing emails per month |
|---|---|
| Starter (free) | 500 |
| Mover | 15,000 |
| Shaker | 75,000 |
| Enterprise | 250,000 |
AWS SES sends all of these emails; former personal sending keys are no longer a second channel for reminders. Transactional emails, such as receipts and download links, remain separate and do not count.
On Starter, you can write your reminders right away. Sending unlocks after €50 in confirmed sales, net of refunds, or with an active paid plan. Starter adds a small Powered by ScaleEdges link. The sender name and Reply-To address can be customized; the sending address belongs to the platform's verified domain.
The gauge shows what is available and the renewal date, the first day of each month in UTC. A step blocked by the quota is skipped if it exceeds the allowed delay, 24 hours by default. The sequence then continues with its normal delays; it does not send every missed step at renewal.
How do you add a coupon to a reminder?
A coupon can accompany a step: a percentage or a fixed amount, with a validity period. It is reserved for the recipient's email address and can be used once. The recovery button applies the coupon and restores the cart without signing the customer in to an account.
How do you measure recovered sales?
The automations list shows entries, emails sent, deliveries, opens and unique clicks, including per step. A message accepted by SES is not yet a confirmed delivery: delivery and tracking events update the counters afterwards.
Recovered revenue adds up the confirmed purchases made after a return attributed to the reminder link, for the same email address. A purchase without this attribution stops the sequence but does not increase this figure. This indicator follows carts kept for thirty days.
How long is cart data kept?
- Cart snapshots are kept for thirty days.
- Expired or permanently abandoned carts are deleted after seven days.
- The historical reminder log is kept for ninety days.
The history of the general engine and unsubscribes follow the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions about abandoned cart recovery
Do cart reminders count toward my email quota?
Yes. Cart reminders share the monthly quota of email campaigns and automations. Transactional emails do not count.
Will a customer receive a reminder without their consent?
No. Reminders are only sent to buyers who checked the reminder consent box at checkout, which is unchecked by default.
What happens if the buyer completes their purchase?
The sequence stops. If they returned through the reminder link, the purchase is added to your recovered revenue.
Can I send reminders on the free plan?
Yes, once your store has reached €50 in confirmed sales, net of refunds. With an active paid plan, sending is available immediately.
