Use this guide when your domain is registered with Gandi and uses Gandi's LiveDNS nameservers, which end with gandi.net. If your domain uses external nameservers, add the records with that company instead. See Find where your DNS is managed.
Two details matter at Gandi: CNAME values must end with a dot, and the default web forwarding records must be removed for the host you connect.
Step 1: Get your records in ScaleEdges
- In your ScaleEdges dashboard, open Settings and select the Storefront tab.
- In the Custom domain card, enter your domain in Domain you own, for example
shop.yourbrand.comoryourbrand.com. - Select Connect domain and wait for the DNS records to add table.
- Keep this tab open. You will copy the Type, Name / host and Value of each row.
ScaleEdges shows a CNAME record for a subdomain, an A record for a root domain, and sometimes a TXT verification record.
Step 2: Open the DNS records in Gandi
- Sign in to the Gandi admin interface.
- Select Domain in the left menu, then select your domain.
- Open the DNS Records tab.
Gandi's default zone usually contains records for its web forwarding and parking service, such as a CNAME record on www pointing to webredir.vip.gandi.net. and an A record on @. If you connect one of these hosts to ScaleEdges, you will replace these records. Also open the Web forwarding tab of your domain and delete any forwarding configured for the host you connect, otherwise it can keep overriding your records.
Step 3: Add the records
In the DNS Records tab, use the pencil icon to edit a record, the trash icon to delete it and Add to create one. In each form, choose the Type, keep the TTL proposed by Gandi or choose 300 seconds, which is the minimum, and fill in the Name and the value field of the record type.
For a subdomain (CNAME)
- Delete any existing A, AAAA or CNAME record with the same name, for example
shop. - Select Add, then choose CNAME as the type.
- In Name, enter only the subdomain, for example
shopforshop.yourbrand.com. - In the value field, paste the Value shown in ScaleEdges and make sure it ends with a dot. If the value copied from ScaleEdges does not end with a dot, add one.
- Save the record.
Without the final dot, Gandi treats the value as a name inside your own domain and the record points to something like …vercel-dns-017.com.yourbrand.com, which cannot work.
For a root domain (A)
- Find the A record named
@. Edit it, or delete it and add a new one. - Delete any AAAA or ALIAS record named
@. ScaleEdges uses IPv4 only, and an ALIAS record cannot coexist with the A record. - For a new record, select Add, then choose A as the type.
- In Name, enter
@, or leave the field empty: Gandi treats an empty name as the root domain. - In the IPv4 address field, paste the address shown in ScaleEdges. An IP address never takes a final dot.
- Save the record.
At the end, @ must have exactly one A record, with the address shown in ScaleEdges.
If ScaleEdges shows a TXT record
- Select Add, then choose TXT as the type.
- In Name, enter the part of the name before your domain, usually
_vercel. - In the text value field, paste the value shown in ScaleEdges. It starts with
vc-domain-verify=. - Save the record. Keep your other TXT records, such as the SPF record of your Gandi mailboxes.
Using the text editor instead
Advanced users can select Edit DNS Records to edit the whole zone as text. Each record takes one line, and the values below are placeholders to replace with the values shown in ScaleEdges:
shop 300 IN CNAME value-shown-in-scaleedges.
@ 300 IN A address-shown-in-scaleedges
_vercel 300 IN TXT "value-shown-in-scaleedges"
Only add the lines that match the records shown in ScaleEdges, delete the lines of conflicting records on the same name, then select Save.
Step 4: Check the configuration
- Return to Settings → Storefront → Custom domain in ScaleEdges.
- Select Check DNS configuration.
- When the status changes to Configuring HTTPS, wait a few minutes, then check again.
- When the status shows Active, select Open domain to view your store.
Gandi publishes changes quickly, but resolvers can keep the previous answer for the duration of the old record's TTL. The default TTL at Gandi is often several hours, so a replaced record can take that long to disappear everywhere. HTTPS is activated automatically by ScaleEdges; you do not need a Gandi certificate.
Troubleshooting
- The status stays on Waiting for DNS: check the final dot of the CNAME value, look for a forgotten ALIAS, AAAA or web forwarding record, and check that the Name field contains only
shop, notshop.yourbrand.com. - The status stays on Configuring HTTPS: if your zone contains CAA records, one of them must allow
letsencrypt.org. - Redirecting www: a store uses one custom domain. To send the other version of your domain to your store, create a web forwarding at Gandi to
https://followed by your connected domain, then test it withhttp://andhttps://.
