A loyalty program in ScaleEdges rewards customers with points every time they buy from your store. When their cumulative total reaches a milestone you define, they unlock a personal discount coupon for their next purchase. You can set it up in about five minutes from Marketing → Loyalty, and it is included in every plan, including the free Starter plan.
What is a loyalty program and why should you create one?
A loyalty program is a points system that turns one-time buyers into returning customers. Each purchase adds points to the customer's balance, and each reward milestone gives them a concrete reason to come back.
For a digital products store, a loyalty program helps you:
- increase repeat purchases, since customers see how close they are to their next reward;
- raise customer lifetime value without discounting your whole catalog for everyone;
- reward your best buyers automatically, with no manual follow-up;
- stand out from marketplaces where buyers have no relationship with the creator.
How does the ScaleEdges loyalty program work?
The program follows three simple rules.
- Customers earn points on every paid purchase. Points are calculated from the amount actually paid, for example 1 point for every €1 spent.
- Milestones unlock rewards. When a customer's cumulative total reaches a milestone, such as 100 points, they can redeem a fixed-amount discount coupon, such as €2 off.
- Customers redeem from their library. Each customer sees their balance and their next reward in their store library, and generates the coupon themselves.
Totals are cumulative: redeeming a reward never removes points. A customer who reaches 300 points can claim every milestone up to 300, each one once.
How do you create a loyalty program in ScaleEdges?
- Open Marketing → Loyalty in your dashboard.
- In the Earning section, complete the sentence Customers earn [X] points for every [amount] spent. For example, enter
1point for every1.00of your store currency. - In the Rewards section, set each milestone: At [number] points get [amount] off. ScaleEdges suggests three milestones to start with: 100 points for 2.00 off, 300 points for 5.00 off and 500 points for 10.00 off.
- Select Add a reward to create another milestone, or the trash icon to remove one.
- Optionally, open Name of the points to rename them. Enter a Singular and a Plural name that fits your brand, such as star and stars, or gem and gems.
- Select Activate the loyalty program to launch it immediately, or Save without activating to prepare it first.
The program status at the top of the page changes from Off to Live once it is active.
Choose rewards you can afford. A good starting point is to give back between 2% and 5% of what the customer has spent: with 1 point per €1, a €5 reward at 300 points returns about 1.7%.
What do your customers see?
Customers do not need to do anything to join. Here is their journey:
- They buy a paid product from your store.
- Points are added to their balance automatically, based on the amount they paid.
- In their library on your store, they see their balance and the next reward they can unlock.
- When they reach a milestone, they redeem it from their library and receive a personal coupon code.
- They enter that code at checkout on their next purchase.
Each loyalty coupon is a fixed-amount discount valid on your whole store. It can be used once, and only with the customer's own email address, so it cannot be shared or resold.
How do you manage members, points and rewards?
The loyalty page shows four indicators: Members, Points earned, Rewards unlocked and Rewards used. Below them, you will find:
- the list of members, with each customer's number of purchases, lifetime spend and current balance;
- the list of rewards, with each coupon code, the customer, the milestone, the reward and its status.
To correct a balance, for example after a refund or as a goodwill gesture:
- Select Adjust next to the customer, or Adjust points at the top of the page.
- Choose the Customer email.
- Enter the New balance. This is the customer's new cumulative total, not an amount to add.
- Optionally, add an internal Reason. It is kept in the loyalty history.
- Select Save balance.
To cancel a reward coupon that has not been used yet, select Cancel on its line in the rewards list.
How do you pause or change the program?
- Change the earning rate or milestones at any time, then select Save. New purchases follow the new rules; existing balances are kept.
- Pause the program by turning off Program active. Customers stop earning points, but their balances and coupons are kept, and you can reactivate the program later.
Frequently asked questions about loyalty programs
Is the loyalty program available on the free plan?
Yes. Loyalty and referral programs are included in every ScaleEdges plan, including Starter. See Pricing for a full comparison.
Do customers earn points on free products?
No. Points are only earned on paid purchases, calculated from the amount actually paid after discounts.
Do past purchases count when I activate the program?
No. Customers start earning points from purchases made after the program is activated.
Can a customer redeem the same milestone several times?
No. Each milestone can be redeemed once per customer. Because totals are cumulative, customers keep progressing toward higher milestones.
What is the difference between a loyalty program and a referral program?
A loyalty program rewards customers for their own purchases. A referral program rewards customers for bringing a friend who buys. You can run both at the same time.
