How to host and sell videos with ScaleEdges Videos

Upload videos to private European storage and play them in your products and website with a brand-free player.

ScaleEdges Videos hosts your videos in private storage in Europe and plays them in a player without YouTube or Vimeo branding. You upload a video once, then insert it in your products, courses or website pages.

When a video is inside a product's Content tab, only buyers can watch it. Playback uses short-lived links, so the video file is never exposed at a permanent public address.

Choose a video plan

ScaleEdges Videos is an add-on to your platform plan. It is included with Shaker (Videos tier) and Enterprise (Videos Pro tier). On other plans, add it from your billing page.

TierPriceStorageMonthly bandwidthMaximum file size
Videos€4.99/month20 GB100 GB5 GB
Videos Plus€9.99/month75 GB300 GB15 GB
Videos Pro€19.99/month200 GB1 TB25 GB

If your platform plan already includes a tier, a higher tier costs only the difference. You can change or cancel your video tier from your billing page. See the ScaleEdges Videos page for the current offer.

Bandwidth is the amount of video data your viewers stream in a month. You receive a notification at 80% and at 100% of your monthly bandwidth.

Upload a video

  1. Open your media gallery and select the Videos tab.
  2. Select Upload videos and choose an MP4 or WebM file.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish. Large files are sent in parts and can resume after a connection problem.

You can also upload directly from the editor when you insert a video.

Add a video to a product

  1. Open the product and go to the Content tab.
  2. Add a Video block from the block menu. The Insert a video window opens.
  3. Select ScaleEdges Video, then choose a video from your gallery or upload a new one.
  4. Publish the update.

The same window also offers Embed, to paste a YouTube or Vimeo link instead.

Buyers watch the video in their purchased content. For a course, create one page per lesson with Add a page and put a video on each page.

Customize a video

Select the video in the editor and open Video options to set:

  • Thumbnail: use an automatic frame or Replace thumbnail with an image from your gallery;
  • Subtitles and chapters: add WebVTT (.vtt) files, up to 512 KB each;
  • Playback: Play automatically, Start muted and a Custom start time. Browsers only allow automatic playback when the video is muted;
  • Preload: load nothing until play, only metadata (recommended), or start buffering immediately;
  • Allow viewers to download this video, if you want buyers to keep a copy.

Replace video lets you pick another video from your gallery for the same block.

Use videos on your website

The same videos can be inserted in the pages of your store built with the website builder, for example a presentation video on your home page. The player's colors, corner radius and size follow your settings, in the preview and on the published page.

A video placed on a public page can be watched by any visitor. Keep paid lessons in the Content tab of a product.

When you reach a limit

  • Storage full: new uploads are refused until you delete videos or move to a higher tier.
  • Monthly bandwidth reached: playback stops until the next month or until you move to a higher tier.
  • Video plan canceled: uploads are locked, but your videos are kept. During a grace period of at least 30 days, existing videos can still be played. Reactivate ScaleEdges Videos to upload again and restore playback after the grace period. You can still rename or delete your videos.

Good practices

  • Export your videos in MP4 (H.264) at 1080p: it plays everywhere and keeps files reasonably small.
  • Add subtitles: many viewers watch without sound, and subtitles make your lessons accessible.
  • Use chapters in long videos so buyers can jump to the part they need.
