How to offer multiple versions of a product

Sell one product in several versions, each with its own name, price, description and buyer content.

Versions let you sell one product in several forms from a single product page: Personal and Commercial license, Basic and Premium, PDF and PDF + templates. The buyer chooses a version before checkout and receives only the content of that version.

Each version has its own name, price, short description and buyer content. All versions share the product's title, description, images and reviews.

Create versions

  1. Open the product and stay in the Presentation tab.
  2. Under the price, enable Create multiple versions.
  3. Select Add a version for each option you want to sell.
  4. For each version, fill in:
  • Version name, such as Standard or Premium;
  • Price;
  • Short description: what is included in this version.
  1. Optionally enter a Selection title, the heading shown above the choice on the product page. Leave it empty to use Choose your version.
  2. Publish the update.

When versions are enabled, the product's own price field is hidden: each version has its own price. Use the arrows to change the order in which versions are displayed.

You can create up to 30 versions per product.

Pay what you want

If Allow pay what you want pricing is enabled, each version gets a Minimum price and an optional Suggested price instead of a fixed price.

Give each version its own content

  1. Open the Content tab.
  2. Under Content for, select the version you want to edit.
  3. Add pages, text, files, videos or license keys for that version.

Each version can have up to 30 pages. To start from the same content, select a source version under Make content identical and select Replace from this version. The current version is overwritten; the source is kept.

Buyers only receive the content of the version they bought. For example, the Commercial license version can include an extra license agreement and source files.

Versions and other features

Versions work with the rest of your store:

  • Coupons, sales and upsells can target specific versions;
  • in a bundle, you choose the exact version to include;
  • Give buyers a Discord role lets you choose different roles for each version;
  • license keys record the version the buyer purchased.

Subscriptions use versions as plans, and coaching products use them for different session options. See how to sell subscriptions and how to sell coaching.

Remove a version

Select the trash icon on a version, then confirm with Remove version. Customers can no longer choose it, and existing buyers keep their access to the content they bought.

If you remove the last version, its content becomes the product's default content and the product returns to a single price.

Good practices

  • Keep two or three versions. Too many choices slow down the decision.
  • Make the difference obvious in the version names and short descriptions.
  • Put your recommended version in the middle position, between a basic and a complete option.
